Improved Estimation of Evoked Potentials Using an Iterative Independent Component Analysis Procedure
نویسنده
چکیده
We have developed an iterative approach based on Independent Component Analysis (ICA) to obtain improved estimates of auditory evoked potentials (AEPs), which represent the electrical response of the brain to auditory stimuli. AEPs are often contaminated by artifacts which reduce the localization accuracy of the sources underlying the surface recordings. We use ICA to separate the activity of neuronal generators from the contribution of the various noise sources, under the assumption that improved AEP estimates will result in improved accuracy in source localization. Preliminary results with actual recordings from normal subjects demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed procedure. Key-Words: Independent Component Analysis, EEG, Auditory Evoked Potentials

Phase Aspects and Localization Analysis of the Auditory N100 Component
The structure of the sources underlying surface recordings of brain activity is very complex. We have developed an iterative procedure based on independent component analysis to obtain single-trial estimates of the auditory N100 component recorded in normal subjects using a pure tone, binaural stimulation task and a wholehead, 256-channel recording system. For each channel, the processed single...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Hidden Markov Model for Detection of P300 in EEG Signals
Introduction: Evoked potentials arisen by stimulating the brain can be utilized as a communication tool between humans and machines. Most brain-computer interface (BCI) systems use the P300 component, which is an evoked potential. In this paper, we evaluate the use of the hidden Markov model (HMM) for detection of P300. Materials and Methods: The wavelet transforms, wavelet-enhanced indepen...
متن کاملA Subspace Method for Dynamical Estimation of Evoked Potentials
It is a challenge in evoked potential (EP) analysis to incorporate prior physiological knowledge for estimation. In this paper, we address the problem of single-channel trial-to-trial EP characteristics estimation. Prior information about phase-locked properties of the EPs is assesed by means of estimated signal subspace and eigenvalue decomposition. Then for those situations that dynamic fluct...

In this paper, we propose an iterative procedure based on two dimensionalfuzzy block-pulse functions for solving nonlinear fuzzy Fredholm integralequations of the second kind. The error estimation and numerical stabilityof the proposed method are given in terms of supplementary Lipschitz condition. Finally, illustrative examples are included in order to demonstrate the accuracyand convergence of...
متن کاملElectrically evoked compound action potential artifact rejection by independent component analysis: Technique validation☆
The electrically-evoked compound action potential (ECAP) is the synchronous whole auditory nerve activity in response to an electrical stimulus, and can be recorded in situ on cochlear implant (CI) electrodes. A novel procedure (ECAP-ICA) to isolate the ECAP from the stimulation artifact, based on independent component analysis (ICA), is described here. ECAPs with artifact (raw-ECAPs) were sequ...
